The Legal Director will oversee the day-to-day legal operations related to Medicaid financial management services, reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel. This role is responsible for supervising legal staff, providing guidance on legal matters, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and mitigating risks associated with service delivery. The Legal Director will also collaborate with executive leadership and internal departments to provide proactive legal support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of staff attorneys and paralegals.
- Advise on legal issues related to Medicaid financial management services, including compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Identify potential legal risks and implement proactive strategies to address them.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior management and cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with compliance, finance, and operations teams to align legal strategies with organizational goals.
- Prepare and deliver training sessions on legal and compliance matters.
- Oversee and manage litigation and administrative proceedings, including coordinating with external counsel as necessary.
- Handle investigations and responses to regulatory inquiries and audits.
- Conduct legal research and provide interpretations of complex statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
- Oversee workload distribution, performance evaluations, and professional development for direct reports.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Licensed at least one state and/or District of Columbia.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience, with at least 3 years in management or supervisory role.
- Experience in Medicaid, healthcare law, financial management services, or related fields strongly preferred.

- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong understanding of Medicaid regulations and healthcare compliance.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in an office or home office setting. Occasional travel to Hub offices and/or contractor offices may be required.
