
Job Description
Amazon’s Legal Department is seeking a smart, experienced, and highly motivated attorney to help support our Books business.
Key job responsibilities
-Providing day-to-day and strategic advice to business partners on new and existing initiatives and key negotiations, litigation, and regulatory matters
-Handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
-Inspecting defects (e.g., complaints, concerns from customers) to identify corrective and preventative actions
-Supporting discreet PR and Public Policy inquiries and escalations
-Managing outside counsel
-Working closely with our Litigation and Competition teams and outside counsel on any formal actions or investigations.
-Some travel, domestic and international, may be required
About the team
The Books Legal team supports Amazon’s Books business, including our in-house publisher, Amazon Publishing, and our self-publishing service, Kindle Direct Publishing.
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience working in a law firm
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Litigation, regulatory legal practice, or competition policy experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
