
HireUp Talent is partnering with Young Berman Karpf & Karpf, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale to find a skilled and experienced Family Law Legal Assistant / Paralegal to support attorneys in delivering exceptional service to their clients. The ideal candidate will provide critical administrative and case management support to multiple attorneys, exercise effective communication skills, be highly organized, and capable of managing a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced legal environment.
This hybrid role requires two (2) days per week on-site at the Fort Lauderdale office. Salary range $75k – $85k/year based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
As a key member of our legal support team, you will provide high-level administrative assistance to multiple attorneys, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Case Management:
- Open, maintain, and close client files with accuracy in accordance with firm policies. Track and manage voluminous deadlines, court hearings, and statutory timelines. Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files in NetDocs.
Administrative Tasks:
- Schedule and maintain court dates, mediation, depositions, and attorney-client appointments. Perform billing entry and timekeeping for attorney review. Review incoming and outgoing mail, email correspondence with accuracy.
Legal Support:
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, declarations, subpoenas, stipulations, and settlement agreements. File legal documents with courts electronically in Circuit, Appellate and Federal Courts. Assist in trial preparation, including assembling trial binders, witness lists, and exhibits.
Client Relations:
- Communicate with clients regarding case updates, documentation, and appointments. Assist clients in completing the required legal forms (e.g., financial disclosures, declarations of income and expenses).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree or certificate in legal studies, paralegal studies, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a family law setting.
- Proficiency with legal software (e.g., MyCase, Clio, NetDocuments) and MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of local family court rules and procedures.
- Strong diligence, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Certification as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (CLA, CP, or equivalent).
- Bilingual (Spanish), depending on firm/client demographics.
