Job Description

Zurich is seeking a successful Workers’ Compensation Defense Trial Attorney to work in our Fresno Staff Legal Office or fully remote anywhere in Northern California

This Attorney will be responsible for representing the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in the Northern California area. They will be practicing law in compliance with ethical standards as established by state law by preparing and defending moderate to high exposure Workers’ Compensation cases from a challenging and varied caseload.  Responsibilities will include working directly with claims professionals providing legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and handling final hearings before the workers’ compensation judge, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate.  Under limited direction, the attorney will work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Worker’s Compensation Litigation area
    AND
  • Member in good standing of the California State Bar Association
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment
  • Knowledge of the law and procedure

  • Certified Workers Compensation Specialist designation desired 

 

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. For additional information about our Total Rewards, click here. Other rewards may include short term incentive bonuses and merit increases. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.  The starting salary range for this position is $140,000.00 - $165,000.00.
