Job Description

About the Role:

Baird Trust Company serves the wealth management needs for high-net-worth individuals and families by providing full investment management, trust administration, and estate settlement services. We have an exciting internship opportunity to work closely with Trust Company team members, Trust Counsel and Baird legal and compliance associates. You’ll gain an understanding of various trust administration, estate planning, federal and state tax issues impacting clients and the trust company. Learn more about Baird Trust here.

This internship requires working full time during the summer, 37.5-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday and working part time during the school semesters, 15-20 hours per week, in our downtown Louisville, KY office. We are seeking a local student who can start in May 2026.

The Impact You’ll Make:

  • Review various estate planning documents including trusts, wills, and personal care documents with the ability to summarize in memo or flowchart form for account officers
  • Review legal documents related to various trust related transactions including sale and purchase of real estate, corporate and business formation, transfer, and termination and other contracts related to trust owned assets
  • Research state statutes and case law related to various trust and tax matters as required
  • Prepare internal documents related to trust and estate transactions as required by trust company policies and procedures
  • Assist with administrative functions including summarizing, scanning, and filing various client planning documents
  • Conduct legal research related to estate planning and income tax issues, state domicile questions, and other legal issues related to trust and estate administration
  • Assist the estate settlement team in various estate related matters for estates in which Baird Trust Company serves as executor
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring to Baird:

  • Pursuing a Juris Doctorate degree with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Entering 2nd or 3rd year of law school in the Fall of 2026
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on clarity and professionalism
  • Familiarity with financial markets or economic principles is a plus
