The Communications Specialist plays a key role in increasing visibility for our Am Law 100 diversified law firm of more than 1000 attorneys, policy advisors, and professionals across 30+ offices serving clients in more than 100 practice areas.
The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the firm's visibility and positioning its attorneys as thought leaders on a national and local scale. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining media relationships, proactively engaging with the media to secure positive placements in targeted publications, both national and local. This involves crafting and distributing press releases, adhering to firm and Associated Press style guidelines. Additionally, the Communications Specialist will be involved in writing feature stories about the firm and its attorneys for internal and external use, monitoring media coverage, and researching emerging trends. On the marketing and business development front, the Specialist will collaborate with new attorneys on marketing materials, writing and editing website bios, track and prepare award submissions, propose and implement PR campaigns, and assist with internal/external messaging on firm initiatives. Manage the firm’s thought leadership program, identifying timely and relevant topics, reviewing and posting attorney-authored articles, blogs, alerts, and other related externally published materials. The role extends to updating the firm's website and intranet, formatting and distributing client communications, and contributing to various special projects within the marketing team.
To be successful in this role, the Communications Specialist should have excellent written and oral communication skills. The Nelson Mullins marketing team works in a strong collaborative environment. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while exhibiting excellent attention to details is essential. Project management and time management skills with the ability to solve problems and a willingness to find a way forward a must. This position requires the ability to adapt to different tones and voices from various audiences. We are seeking someone with a professional demeanor with the ability to provide tactful, honest counsel and comfortable sharing experience and point of view on topics as well as recommending approaches.
