Salary Range:
Level I $3,523-$4,293 Monthly
Level II $3,890-$4,741 Monthly
Level III $4,323-$5,268 Monthly - Typical Duties
Level I:
•Provide victim assistance services to a broad base of the public via self-initiated activities.
•Contact public departments and private agencies to inform them of Victim Witness Program and to solicit their
involvement as a referral agency.
•Maintain working relationship with other referral departments and agencies.
•Give presentations to law enforcement agencies and civic groups to explain the Victim Witness Program.

Level II:

Level III:
•Represent the department in the absence of superiors.
•Assist in preparing complex statistical reports and may participate in special research projects.
•Recruit volunteers and interns; help develop, oversee and implement training plans for volunteers, interns and new employees; provide input to supervisory staff regarding volunteer, intern and staff assignments/performance; prioritize and assign staff working supervisor's absence.
•Provide services to victims on after hours calls for assistance at Child Abuse Response Team interviews

Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education:
- Completion of two (2) years of college, including 15 units of criminal law, sociology or related area.
Experience:
- Level I: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in interviewing or obtaining information in fields similar to the criminal justice system. Level II/III: One (1) year of experience in a position equivalent to Victim Witness Worker I in Tulare County.
Knowledge of:
- Interviewing, counseling, and recordkeeping techniques.
- The Criminal Justice System in order to assist victims.
- Public and private agency resources available to victims, and to the Victim Witness Program.
- Standard office practices and procedures.
Skill/Ability to:
- Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
- Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
- Interview and counsel effectively in a variety of crisis situations and settings.
- Accurately gather, record, and correctly evaluate data necessary for the determination of eligibility for benefits in the Victim Witness Program.
- Elicit information from and give information to applicants in difficult circumstances involving emotional disturbance.
- Correctly interpret rules and regulations regarding eligibility for the Victim Witness Program.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Conditions of Employment
