Director, Assistant General Counsel – Privacy & Data Governance

 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced attorney to join our legal leadership team as an Assistant GC – Privacy and Data Governance. This role is perfect for a legal professional who combines technical expertise with business acumen. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a skilled negotiator, a team player, and a trusted business partner. Reporting to the VP, Deputy GC & Chief Privacy Officer, the role is responsible for leading and cultivating the privacy & data governance legal partnership for Omnicell. This player-coach role will have primary responsibility for: (i) global privacy program compliance activities; (ii) advising on AI and data governance and regulations; (iii) advocacy of privacy by design principles in product offering structure; and (iv) leading a small but mighty team of privacy professionals. This role will work closely with every aspect of the legal team, the AI Transformation Office, and the product, engineering, HR, IT, finance, quality, compliance, and sales organizations. This is a US-based role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead and manage the company's privacy, data governance, and AI governance initiatives, ensuring compliance with global data protection regulations and ethical AI practices.

· Lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), AI Conformance Assessments, and support AI risk management frameworks

· Be a strong business partner, collaborating with stakeholders to provide actionable legal advice on privacy, data governance, and AI governance

· Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure data protection, privacy compliance, responsible AI usage, and responsible data lifecycle management

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy, data governance, and AI governance considerations into business operations

· Support data incident response planning, investigations, remediation and disclosures

· Monitor regulatory changes and enforcement actions in privacy, data governance, and AI governance landscape

· Structure privacy go-to-market strategy, including overseeing the implementation and maturity of privacy by design principles and data governance

· Draft, negotiate and review contracts with respect to Customer, ecosystem partner, and vendor privacy obligations (e.g., BAAs, DPAs)

· Support M&A due diligence and integration related to data and AI assets

· Coordinate workflow, manage resources, and maximize the output of the team, standardize processes, and leveraging technology solutions

· Develop, motivate, and provide strategic leadership to attorneys and legal professionals

· Implement training strategy for business stakeholders on evolving best practices

 

Required Knowledge & Skills:

· Demonstrated leadership in managing, mentoring and fostering a culture of strategic business partnership, curiosity, continuous learning, and care

· Proven track record of managing complex privacy and data governance issues in an in-house environment

· Deep understanding of US and international privacy and data regulations and AI regulatory frameworks (e.g. HIPAA/HITECH, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, etc.)

· Strong negotiation skills

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of the organization and to build strong relationships

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills that enable strategical input and practical solutions

· Strong initiative and willingness to learn and seek information independently

· Advanced prioritization and organization skills that enable consistent delivery of high-quality results across multiple competing priorities under tight timeframes

· Demonstrated courage to do what is right, champion good ideas, make tough decisions, and take unpopular stances if required

 

Basic Qualifications:

· J.D. from an accredited law school; member in good standing of a state Bar

· 10+ years of substantial experience in privacy advisory, data governance, and privacy compliance programs

· 5+ years of experience with SaaS and professional services offerings and data governance

· 3+ years structuring or maintaining global privacy compliance programs

· CIPP/US, CIPP/E or similar designation

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· AIGP, CIPM

· Product lifecycle experience

· Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence at all levels

 

Work Conditions:

· Remote – with talent center preference of Pittsburgh, Dallas, Austin, or St. Petersburg preferred

· Flexibility in working hours as needed

· Travel up to 20% (primarily quarterly stakeholder meeting or legal team meetings)
