- Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the Assistant Corporation Counsel assigned to the Child Support Agency in all aspects of litigation associated with the program by performing moderately complex legal secretarial work, meeting statutory and court requirements and deadlines.
Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Hours Per Shift: 8
Shifts Per Pay Period: 10

Draft legal pleadings, including summons and petitions, affidavits, and motions for review and signature by assistant Corporation Counsel for Child Support or designee.
Have a solid understanding of the KIDS statewide database system including dispositioning cases per state and federal guidelines and obtaining DILHR, Unemployment Benefit, and Fostercare information.
Have a solid understanding of the CARES WorkerWeb to obtain information regarding public assistance benefits.
Research files before court for completeness and prepare files for court per Attorney direction.
Draft requests and orders for warrants for attorney and court review, track responses for timeliness and calendar for court, if appropriate.
E-file all legal documents according to Wisconsin e-filing protocol.
Review e-filing emails and respond or disseminate as appropriate.
Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
Calendar and monitor court hearing dates and communicate with the Clerk of Courts personnel on calendaring issues.
File genetic test results with court and send to parties.
Draft Orders for attorney review and e-file same with court and parties.
Assist the assistant Corporation Counsel for Child Support in court by organizing exhibits, dispositioning court hearing in KIDS database system, checking in clients, and as may otherwise be directed. Draft and e-file orders in court contemporaneously with court action as able.
Schedule witnesses as required.
Arrange for personal service or mail service as appropriate on all case types including paternity cases.
Draft correspondence as requested.
Serve as a notary public.
Answer telephones and greet visitors as necessary. Respond to private counsel as directed by assistant Corporation Counsel for Child Support.
Assist in the preparation of appellate briefs related to Child Support matters.
Understand and maintain confidentiality requirements.
Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

Education and Experience
Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited program with a minimum of two years relevant prior experience required. Proven experience in ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well as ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology and legal concepts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles is essential.
