Job Description

Bargaining Unit: Non Represented - Professional

Rate of Pay: $164,299 annual + DOE

Summary
The Legal Associate manages litigation, calendars case dockets and conducts pre-trial litigation for contract and employment matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages litigation case dockets, and conducts pre-trial litigation for contract and employment matters.
  • Litigates uninsured cases to completion.
  • Communicates with opposing counsels and regulatory administrators.
  • Raises awareness of current and pertinent legal matters to Legal and other departments.
  • Tracks and responds to all legal and court-related documents, including pleadings and discovery.
  • Verifies subpoenas and educates staff as appropriate.
  • Approves any outside firm invoices.
  • Conducts research on either WestLaw or Lexis.
  • Cross trained with Contracts, Risk, Compliance and Privacy and serves as a liaison and backup if one of those individuals are out.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; administering scheduling systems; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; enforcing policies and procedures.

Minimum Education/Experience
Doctoral Degree JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of California and 3 or more years relevant experience

None

Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:

  • Proficient with research on either WestLaw or Lexis.
  • 3+ years of litigation experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in the healthcare industry for either payers or providers
