POSITION TITLE

Senior Attorney, Insurance Regulatory

POSITION LOCATION

Richmond, VA

YOUR ROLE

This role will provide legal advice in connection with our insurance companies’ corporate insurance regulatory reporting responsibilities and also related corporate governance. A core part of this role will include being a strategic advisor on the Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory reporting. This position will work closely with and report to the Associate General Counsel, Long-Term Care.

What you will be doing

  • Regulatory filings related to compliance with insurance regulations across state jurisdictions, including interacting and working directly with state regulators
  • Support statutory filings and compliance with the Insurance Company Holding Act (e.g. Affiliate Agreement Filings, Prior Approval Filings and Risk Filings)
  • Support contracting initiatives between insurance affiliate entities and with external parties
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to business, finance, legal and other colleagues on Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters
  • Support corporate governance matters related to Genworth subsidiary boards
  • Provide advice and counsel to internal clients on impact of new insurance laws, regulations and caselaw
  • Responsible for identification of legal and insurance regulatory risks and development of risk avoidance and risk mitigation strategies

What you bring

  • JD degree from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as legal counsel within a corporate legal department, state department of insurance or a quality law firm focused on insurance regulatory matters
  • Experience with Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and master new substantive topics quickly
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated partnership with internal business clients with a solution-oriented focus on achieving business priorities and goals
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal daily supervision, while also knowing when a matter requires escalation
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage client/management expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and assess risks and make recommendations regarding risk mitigation

Nice to have

  • Experience with corporate governance matters related to corporate boards of directors
  • Prior experience interacting directly with regulators
