This position manages clinical referrals and conducts intakes for the Medical-Legal Partnership and serves as a liaison between hospital and clinic providers, patients, legal staff, social workers and other outside referral sources. Manages and organizes legal and social work cases and prepares data for weekly presentations and monthly reports. This position requires understanding of various legal/social specialties to evaluate the suitability of the MLP case and assign appropriate cases to internal and external staff and programs. Identifies cases and coordinates compliance with federal, state, and philanthropic grants with the goal of improving client access to services. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
This position manages clinical referrals and conducts intakes for the Medical-Legal Partnership and serves as a liaison between hospital and clinic providers, patients, legal staff, social workers and other outside referral sources. Manages and organizes legal and social work cases and prepares data for weekly presentations and monthly reports. This position requires understanding of various legal/social specialties to evaluate the suitability of the MLP case and assign appropriate cases to internal and external staff and programs. Identifies cases and coordinates compliance with federal, state, and philanthropic grants with the goal of improving client access to services. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Organizes and files referrals from providers and conducts various intake assessments, including the collection of information related to demographics, insurance, household information, social/ legal issues, and supporting documentation. Verifies client eligibility across Memphis CHILD's multiple grants and collects and inputs necessary eligibility documentation into Memphis CHILD's case management database.
  • Coordinates and creates data spreadsheets for Memphis CHILD weekly "Case Review" meetings in which the team determines case assignment. Creates service files for Le Bonheur staff and partner organizations on the Le Bonheur data management system. Tracks cases with partners and providers to ensure cases are ongoing or completed. Communicates with providers regarding the assignment and closing of each case.
  • Manages and organizes monthly SSI Clinic in which Memphis CHILD pairs Le Bonheur medical residents with patient families applying for SSI for their disabled children. Assists patient families in requesting application appointments, completing disability reports, and signing necessary documentation for Memphis CHILD representation. Follows up with each patient family with regular status updates regarding their legal case.
  • Schedules opportunities for Le Bonheur providers to host Memphis CHILD for 'roadshow' presentations in which Memphis CHILD presents an overview of services. Offers input to Memphis CHILD leadership regarding new and ongoing processes to continuously improve the client experience.
  • Manages the calendar for the Memphis CHILD Le Bonheur staff. Schedules meetings and appointments with clients. Oversees office supplies, equipment and inventory; places orders as needed.


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Office or administrative support

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to effectively calm patients/clients and be able to deal with distressed and/or agitated patients/clients and their families.
  • Strong knowledge of legal, social, and medical terminology and referral procedures with outside sources.
  • Skilled at building rapport with clients, providers and staff.
  • Adaptable and quick to learn new systems and creating new processes/concepts.
  • Ability to prioritize high-volume workloads and referrals meeting program deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to assist decision making.
  • Ability to understand and compose moderately complex written materials.
  • Ability to work without close supervision, exercise independent judgment, and communicate effectively with staff where tact, diplomacy, and good judgment are essential.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be detailed-orientated with focus on accuracy and compliance with organization needs and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize duties/tasks.
  • Ability to initiate communication with patients/clients, their families and hospital visitors.
  • Ability to motivate and influence people.

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
