Claims Counsel

The Claims Counsel is responsible for managing and resolving complex legal claims while providing strategic advice on claim handling, litigation management, and risk mitigation. This role involves working closely with internal claims professionals, external counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure effective resolution of claims while protecting the company’s legal and financial interests.

 

About the ROLE

Each day at AssuranceAmerica is different, but as Claims Counsel, you will:

·       Analyze and assess legal claims, including liability, coverage issues, and potential exposure.

·       Perform legal research and provide legal advice and guidance on claim resolution strategies.

·       Work closely with both the Staff counsel and Claims Departments to ensure bad faith and coverage litigation are strategically handled, as well as provide coverage advice and guidance to the Claims Department

·       Evaluate settlement opportunities and may participate in negotiations.

·       Develop and implement litigation strategies to minimize financial and reputational risks.

  • Monitor case progress, deadlines, and procedural requirements.
  • Review pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Represent the company in mediations, depositions, and court proceedings when necessary.

·       Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

About YOU

  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify risk with strong understanding of all applicable ethical duties
  • Ability to work effectively with clients and customers and negotiate on their behalf
  • Able to work independently or with a team with strong attention to detail along with the ability to organize and prioritize workload


·       Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school

·       Active license to practice law in Georgia or Florida

·         Must have 3+ years of experience as an attorney, including civil jury trial experience and be capable of handling cases of moderate exposure with minimum supervision.

 

Preferred

·       3+ years’ experience in defense of first-party litigation

Physical Requirements

·       Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·       Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

·       Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises.
