Job Summary:
The Paralegal provides legal support to the in-house legal team at Horizon focusing on litigation. The Paralegal prepares and maintains legal documents for review, approval, and use, investigates facts, conducts and coordinates document collections, and researches and analyzes law. The incumbent communicates with various internal and external contacts (including outside counsel), prepares business correspondence and reports, and assists with the organization and maintenance of Company documents and department files. The Paralegal I is supervised by attorneys on legal matters, and requires the use of independent judgment to make recommendations to legal staff on a variety of matters.Responsibilities:- Organize, maintain and update departmental files.
- Prepare legal documents for review, approval, and use by attorneys, primarily for use in Fair Hearings, jurisdiction, Office of Administrative Law.
- Analyze data and write reports as requested.
- Provide administrative assistance as needed ranging from drafting letters, scheduling and preparing meetings, typing, expense reports, and projects as requested.
- Perform factual investigation and research.
- Responsible for the intake, response, and coordination of the Company’s subpoenas.
- Assist in obtaining, organizing, analyzing and providing documents and information related to litigation or investigation.
- Case management, including financial management.
- Negotiate resolution of matters pursuant to authorized authority
- Research, monitor, update, and maintain current knowledge of developments in federal and state legislation, rules, regulations, enforcement actions and industry guidelines affecting the health insurance industry.

High School Diploma/GED required.
Bachelor degree preferred or relevant experience in lieu of degree.
Requires a minimum of one (1) - three (3) years of paralegal experience.
Litigation experience highly preferred
Paralegal certification from ABA accredited paralegal program.
Applicable work experience at a law firm or with a corporate in-house legal team in lieu of Paralegal certification will be considered.
Experience in a highly regulated industry preferred.
Working knowledge of New Jersey litigation practice preferred.
Proficiency in the use of personal computers and supporting software in a Windows based environment including MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Knowledgeable in the use of legal research software and databases.
Works as part of a team and is highly collaborative.
Self-starter with multi-tasking abilities.
Must be proactive and accountable.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Salary Range:
$54,600 - $73,080This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
