Responsibilities
- You will lead and manage a team of investigators who conduct investigations for business related professional boards and commissions (Barbers, Cosmetologists, Massage Therapists, Auctioneers, Athletics, Geologists, Forestry, Cemetery, Funeral).
- You will routinely monitor the status of cases, assign cases, and provide support with guidance and training to assigned investigators.
- You will work closely with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) to receive advice regarding legal issues or questions about sufficiency of evidence.
- You will investigate complex or priority investigations, prepare related documentation, enter investigative case activity in applicable systems, and serve as a witness in board disciplinary hearing or other hearings.
- You will provide and submit monthly or other required reports and attend trainings, hearings, or other meetings as requested.
- Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. (A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing investigations and substantive knowledge of the practice of one or more of the health care professionals listed above.
- Prior investigative experience or experience conducting regulatory investigations and knowledge of health care and health care professions.
- Strong leadership and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt style to explain complex issues succinctly and with clarity both orally and in writing.
- Substantive understanding of investigative techniques, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of SC’s professional licensing practice act concerning health care professions.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
Other Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
- Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
- Position works in both an office and field environment.
- May require extended periods of driving and sitting and may require visiting private facilities that are non-ADA compliant.
- Frequent statewide travel and occasional overnight travel.
- May need to bend, stoop, kneel and lift up to 25lbs.
- Occasional work outside of normal Agency business hours.
