
Position Summary:
As a Paralegal for Huff, Powell & Bailey, LLC you will assist lawyers by drafting, analyzing, and/or organizing information, documents, and materials in relation to various legal matters. Primary duties include record request and organization, analysis and summary of documents produced, research, and initial drafts of legal documents for attorney review, as well as assistance with overall case strategy. Paralegals have an annual billable requirement of 1400 hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Identify non-party medical providers and prepare non-party medical record requests
- Maintain log of medical records produced/received and organize medical records
- Prepare summaries of records, documents produced, and plaintiff and co-defendants discovery responses
- Review, analyze, and catalogue information and documents obtained from client and produced by parties and non-parties, throughout discovery
- Assist attorney in engaging with client in collection of documents and information for discovery responses and preparing for production, including redaction of privileged/protected information
- Draft or Revise/edit various correspondence, reports, pleadings in advance of attorney review
- Exchange e-mails and conduct telephone calls with clients, experts, and other legal professionals, as well as preparation of materials for their review
- Trial preparation and, as needed, attendance, including preparing exhibits and coordinating witnesses
- Track time spent on tasks and enter into billing software in compliance with firm policies and client guidelines
- Conducting research through social media, investigating facts, and developing legal arguments and strategy
- Preparing and filing documents with courts
- Organizing and archiving the documents related to completed and ongoing cases
- Keeping track of changes in legal framework and providing timely updates on these changes
- Performs other tasks as assigned by attorneys
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CORE COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Excellent comprehension; verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and self-control.
- Enthusiasm, trustworthiness, personal integrity, and honesty.
- Must be well versed in legal terminology.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, and court procedures.
- Excellent research, writing, planning, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, or add any additional research methods here) and case management software.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), iManage, and other legal software applications.
- Other Requirements: Strong ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Medical malpractice and litigation paralegal experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Use arms, hands, and fingers to perform daily tasks.
- Ability to see and hear well (naturally or with correction).
- Sitting for extended periods of time in an office environment.
- Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs.
- Able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manor.
