SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are looking for a driven individual to fill the role of Paralegal within our in-house legal department. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the in-house attorney in various legal activities related to contracts and business issues. Excellent computer and reasoning skills, effective communication, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role. Ideally, the candidate would possess knowledge and experience in the construction industry or a related field such as architecture or engineering.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contract Preparation and Review: Assist with the preparation, development, review and revision of contracts.
- Legal Review: Review project procurement documents and assist with legal review.
- Licensing and Registration: Assist with business licensing and registration.
- Legal Research: Stay informed about hot topics and legal changes related to the construction industry.
- Debt Collection: Assist with debt collection and enforcement activities, including demands, claims, notices, and litigation.
- Document Preparation: Assist with the preparation and filing of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, agreements, and releases for in-house attorneys and outside counsel.
- Training and Presentations: Assist with the development of training and/or presentations on contract law and other construction or business-related legal issues.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a construction-related industry or civil paralegal work is preferred.
- Paralegal certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage a large volume of contracts and associated issues.
- Demonstrated capability in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
- Willingness to engage in extensive reading and writing.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Practical and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Driven to achieve excellent results for operations.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
- Efficient time management to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF editing programs.
- Understand contract language and terminology.
- Experience with AIA software and documents preferred.
