
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Tax Attorney to join our prestigious financial firm. This role will work closely with our team of Wealth Managers, Financial Advisors, and Estate Planning Attorneys to provide comprehensive tax planning and analysis for our clients. The Tax Attorney will be responsible for delivering in-depth tax strategy solutions and overseeing the work of CPAs who will be preparing our clients' tax returns. This role demands a high level of expertise in tax law, exceptional communication skills, and a strong understanding of wealth management strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Planning & Strategy Development:
- Work closely with Wealth Managers and Financial Advisors to develop customized tax strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Provide detailed tax analysis, helping clients navigate complex tax issues related to income, estate, gift, and trust taxes.
- Ensure that clients’ financial strategies align with tax efficiency goals, proactively recommending adjustments as necessary.
- Advise clients on tax implications of investments, estate planning, gifting strategies, and other wealth management decisions.
- Collaborate with Estate Planning Team:
- Partner with Estate Planning Attorneys to integrate tax considerations into estate plans.
- Review and provide recommendations on the tax aspects of wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
- Assist with the tax analysis of estates and trusts, ensuring the correct tax treatment of distributions and asset transfers.
- Oversight of CPA Tax Preparation:
- Supervise a team of CPAs responsible for preparing clients' individual and corporate tax returns.
- Ensure that tax returns comply with current laws and accurately reflect the tax strategies and planning sessions completed with clients.
- Conduct final review of tax returns before submission, ensuring all tax savings opportunities have been fully realized.
- Provide guidance to CPAs on complex tax issues and ensure the timely completion of returns.
- Client Meetings & Presentations:
- Meet with clients on a regular basis to review their financial and tax positions, and deliver actionable recommendations.
- Assist clients in navigating any tax-related challenges, explaining legal implications and alternative strategies.
- Prepare and present clear, detailed reports for clients, outlining tax liabilities and strategies for mitigation.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure all tax strategies comply with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Identify and assess potential risks to clients' tax positions, recommending adjustments or safeguards to mitigate risk.
- Stay updated on tax law changes and new regulations to ensure all strategies are current and compliant.
- Education & Thought Leadership:
- Provide ongoing training and mentoring to junior staff and the CPA team on tax law updates and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, changes in tax laws, and emerging strategies to bring innovative solutions to clients.
- Act as a resource for the team on complex legal tax matters and foster a collaborative, knowledgeable environment.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with a specialization in Tax Law.
- Active Bar membership in good standing (State-specific).
- 1+ years of experience as a Tax Attorney, ideally in a wealth management, financial planning, or estate planning environment.
- Entry Level applicants will also be considered to grow within our team.
- In-depth knowledge of tax law, including income, estate, gift, and trust taxes, and an understanding of related financial strategies.
- Strong leadership abilities, with experience overseeing tax professionals and working in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work directly with high-net-worth individuals and families, providing customized, strategic solutions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
- Experience in managing a team and collaborating across disciplines (Wealth Managers, Financial Advisors, Estate Planning Attorneys).
Compensation:
- 100-150k Salary based on experience
- Benefits package including health insurance, 401k with matching, and paid time off.
