- Class Definition
The CASA Staff Attorney provides Guardian Ad Litem services to children who come before the Family Court as a result of the filing of a dependency/neglect/abuse and termination of parental rights petition; partakes in all court proceedings relative to said petitions, including, if necessary, the filing of motions, subpoenaing of witnesses and documents, and the examination of witnesses; submits recommendations to the court relative to the best interests of the ward; provides legal representation and counsel to the volunteer court-appointed special advocates; as well as any and all other duties as may be assigned by the Family Court Chief of Staff or his/her designee.
This position may be required to work a flexible schedule if/when needed.
- Required Qualifications for Appointment
Graduation from an accredited four-year college, supplemented by a J.D. or LL.B. Degree. Must be a member of the Rhode Island Bar; must have at least two years' legal experience.
