Job Description

General Information

Work Location: 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Suite 969, Bradenton, Florida 34205

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Employees in this class work under the direct supervision of the Risk Manager of the County Attorney's office. Employees within this class perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks in the daily operation of the Self-Insurance Program including research, analysis, and adjusting of auto, auto liability, general liability, and property claims asserted against Manatee County, Florida.

Note: This position has been designated by the Manatee County Commission as serving at the will and pleasure of the County Attorney. Employees so designated may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Working Conditions

Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Auto Liability; General Liability

Review all accident and incident injury forms and claims.

Determine and set appropriate reserves; input and maintain accurate claims and investigation files in department database including those for subrogation purposes.

Follow up as needed with medical providers, case managers, attorneys, and/or third-party adjusters regarding the status of a claim.

Attend meditations, depositions, hearings, and restitution hearings; review demand packages and determine case and settlement value; negotiate and settle claims within designated authority, including restitution settlements.

Monitor restitution payments.

Prepare loss run reports; attend meetings; and perform various duties as requested by the Risk Manager and/or the County Attorney.

Property Claims

Review of all claim forms and claims regarding property loss due various causes.

Determine and set appropriate reserves; input and maintain accurate claims and investigation files in department database, including those for subrogation purposes.

Follow up as needed with appropriate property professionals, including engineers, builders, repair and maintenance personnel, and inspectors, attorneys, and/or third-party adjusters regarding the status of a claim.

Attend meditations, depositions, hearings; determine case and settlement value; negotiate and settle claims within designated authority.

Prepare loss run reports; attend meetings; and perform various duties as requested by the Risk Manager and/or the County Attorney.

Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Legal Studies, Business, Public Administration, or related field.

Minimum five (5) years' experience adjusting insurance claims with an emphasis in the areas of auto liability and general liability, and property claims.

Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.

State of Florida All Lines Adjuster License, or the ability to obtain prior to start date required.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of Auto, Auto Liability, General Liability, and Property laws, rules, regulations, and best claims practices.

Knowledge of auto repair practices, procedures, and costs.

Ability to investigate, evaluate and adjust of Auto, Auto Liability, General Liability, and Property claims, including setting reserves, and negotiating settlements within authority.

Ability to make independent decisions and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate and negotiate with claimants, orally and in writing.

Knowledge of legal process and terminology, and of medical terminology.

Ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy of work.

Ability to prepare detailed financial reports.

Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and RIMS.

Ability to use miscellaneous office equipment, including scanners and copiers.
