Job Description

Copper River Shared Services is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Paralegal to join our growing team in Chantilly, VA. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support our legal department in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on government contracting, compliance, and corporate legal affairs.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with corporate filings, mandatory reporting, and government contracting requirements.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on federal, state, and local laws and regulations, particularly those related to government contracting, FAR, and DFARS.
  • Support the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and other senior legal staff in providing legal advice and guidance on various corporate and government contracting matters.
  • Review and analyze government contracts, compliance reports, and related documentation to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in administering and maintaining the company’s participation in government contracting programs, including the 8(a) program, HUBZone, and SDVOSB certifications.
  • Manage and track contract milestones, renewals, and compliance deadlines.
  • Participate in internal audits, compliance reviews, and risk assessments to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel, contractors, and regulatory agencies as needed to support business objectives and legal compliance.
  • Provide training and support to junior paralegals or administrative staff on compliance processes, contract management, and legal procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that legal files and records are accurately maintained and up-to-date in accordance with company policies and best practices.

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Paralegal certification or completion of a legal studies program is a plus.

Experience & Skills:

  • 3 - 5 year’s experience in government contracting, including familiarity with the 8(a) program and other federal contracting regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and other relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in legal writing, contract drafting, and the negotiation of terms and conditions.
  • Strong legal research skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal materials and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and document management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal stakeholders and external parties.
  • Experience in conducting internal audits, compliance reviews, or supporting regulatory investigations is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the administration of small business programs, such as the 8(a) program, HUBZone, or SDVOSB certifications.
  • Familiarity with contract management software or legal document management systems.
  • Experience in working with government clients or contractors in the defense or technology sectors.
