PURPOSE OF POSITION:
An Afghan Program Bilingual Paralegal at Catholic Charities will:
- Work closely with Afghan Program attorneys to provide direct representation to ORR-eligible Afghans, including refugees, asylees, SIVs, and humanitarian parolees.
- Assist in maintenance of case management and data systems.
- Assist in providing document translation services.
- Provide interpretation in Dari and/or Pashto and cultural bridging between staff and Afghan clients to ensure delivery of linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive legal services.
- Cultivate partnerships and contacts with other organizations, government agencies, firms and businesses.
- Promotes and adheres to Catholic Charities’ vision, mission, values, and Code of Ethics.
- Models Catholic Charities’ commitment to treating all persons with respect and dignity.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Good steward of Agency human, financial, and capital resources.
- Participates effectively as a team member through communication, cooperation, information-sharing, and problem-solving.
- Participates in staff trainings and programs as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Any other tasks or duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual in Dari or Pashto with written and verbal fluency required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Excel required.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work under deadlines.
- Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from accredited four-year college or university preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must have a valid driver's license in the state of Colorado.
- Must take the COIL course and submit DOJ accreditation application within a reasonable time.
