Description

The Controller will provide hands-on direction regarding all accounting, cash receipts and cash disbursement functions of the organization. This position will manage the accounting team and will report directly to the CFO of the organization. The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations with functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Controller will ensure that the organization has systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct successful audits.

Essential Job Functions:


• Management of accounting staff

• Ensure accounting operational requirements are achieved

• Integrating workforce planning into core business strategy for enhanced agility

• Provides training & development opportunities

• Performance management

• Oversee receivables and payables functions

• Ensure operation of all office equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining inventories, and evaluating new equipment

• Collaborate with external accounting firm in preparation of GAAP financial statements

• Prepare tax and accounting schedules for year-end review and tax returns

• Work with external CPA to prepare financial statements and tax returns

• Collaborate with the CFO to establish, communicate, and coordinate accounting policies, practices, and procedures, including recommended changes

• Develop and implement cost saving measures

• Protect our financial assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by utilizing proactive learning strategies to stay abreast of industry changes and best practices

• Upholding confidentiality and privacy standards and protocols


Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Working knowledge of or the ability to learn financial management related to Utilization Management (UM) functions and reporting

• Working knowledge of all accounting functions associated with payables, receivables, and general ledger

• Ability to effectively monitor, evaluate and administer the resources of accounting department and make substantiated recommendations regarding resource allocation needs for future workforce planning purposes

• Ability to identify, analyze and communicate trends through analysis of practices to improve the overall utilization of resources and cost containment

• Excellent relationship and professional management skills

• Ability to problem-solve complex, multifaceted situations while utilizing conceptual agility

• Strong organizational and prioritization skills

• Ability to cultivate a thriving team culture

• Proficiency in Accounting Operations such as: Developing/Managing Processes and Standards, Financial Software, Audits, Corporate Finance, Developing/Tracking Budgets and Expenses, Analysis/Reporting, and Talent/Performance Management

• Self-motivated with strong initiative

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, QuickBooks, and Sage

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is required.
  • Five or more years of direct accounting department management experience is required.


License and Certification: N/A


Position Demands:


This position requires sitting, bending, and stooping for up to 8 hours per day in an office setting. Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Ability to learn technical material. The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, etc. The person in this position frequently communicates with guests, team members, and vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information.
