Salary: $110,418 - $137,838 Salary range is provided by law; however, individual compensation is based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, years and quality of experience. Any salary offered is determined by the Chief of Staff and is non-negotiable.

Position Description: The Asset Forfeiture Unit of the Multi-Jurisdiction Bureau is seeking an attorney to join the unit in an ASA position.
Working Environment & Reporting Structure: Assistant State's Attorneys assigned to the Asset Forfeiture Unit will report directly to the Supervisor of the Unit and will work in conjunction with other members of the Asset Forfeiture Unit. The AFU is part of the Multi-Jurisdiction Bureau.
Duties/Requirements: The Asset Forfeiture Unit ASAs are responsible for reviewing cases arising from investigations where assets are seized by law enforcement agencies to determine if civil claims against the property are appropriate. They then follow the claims through settlement or hearing where they must present testimony related to seizure and ownership of the asset. A large component of the job is also supporting law enforcement in investigations including reviewing document and seizure warrants. The position provides an opportunity to interact with law enforcement agencies throughout Cook County, as well as federal law enforcement agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The candidate must possess significant litigation experience as an attorney;
- Preference will be given to attorneys who have civil litigation experience;
- Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills;
- Strong organizational skills and great attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to coordinate with multiple law enforcement agencies;
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and effective time management skills;
- Must uphold the mission and values of the Office at all times and support attorneys in doing the same;
- Must be highly motivated and have strong leadership skills and the ability to promote team building.

Physical Requirements:
Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
