Hinshaw & Culbertson, a leading national law firm, is seeking an attorney to join its Consumer Financial Services practice in its Peoria, IL, office.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a collaborative team, advising on regulatory compliance issues and representing clients in investigation and enforcement matters.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of consumer financial services laws, including the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and Unfair, Deceptive and Abusive Practices (UDAAP). Experience with state laws, such as usury, installment loans, credit sales, and deferred deposits, is also helpful. Prior government experience at a federal or state consumer regulatory or enforcement agency is a plus.
Position Requirements:
- Must be a member of the Illinois Bar, in good standing
- 3+ years of commercial/financial services litigation experience required.
- Knowledge of consumer financial services laws (TILA, ECOA, EFTA, FCRA, RESPA, FDCPA, UDAAP).
- Ability to draft opinions, legal memoranda, and compliance advice clearly and concisely.
- Top quality work product, strong academics, and interest in business development efforts.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
