Job Description:

The Probate Controversies Paralegal provides support to attorneys with handling disputes related to trust, estate and conservatorship litigation and administration matters. This role assists in drafting legal documents, handles case management, conducts legal research and analyzes legal issues. The Private Client Paralegal is responsible for ensuring efficient end to end case management. This role works under general supervision and relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Draft probate court petitions, judicial council forms, other related documents, and correspondence, including but not limited to applications, motions, pleadings, notices of hearing, discovery requests, deposition notices and proofs of service
  • File documents with government agencies and courts, including applications/motions, petitions and other related matters
  • Aid with court proceedings, including preparing exhibits, witness lists, trial binders, etc. and setting up courtroom logistics
  • Perform legal research and summarize findings for attorney review with respect to pleadings, service, and requirements of California probate estates, trusts, and conservatorship/guardianship proceedings
  • Update and maintain calendars and departmental docket with court filing deadlines
  • Work with applicable attorney services to orchestrate and complete court filings
  • Assist with trust and estate administrations
  • Prepare communications to clients, third-party advisors, opposing counsel, and vendors.
  • Coordinate and orchestrate requests for duplicating, word processing, messenger delivery and special mailings

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • At least five (5) years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Knowledge of California probate court laws, procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of docketing/calendaring software and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to work flexible and/or fluctuating hours
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Strong sense of teamwork and support; ability to build client trust

     Target Hiring Range $66,000 - $160,000


Please note that quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be. Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that MWE provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
