Job Summary
Senior managing attorney reporting to the Deputy General Counsel with primary responsibility for providing legal support to the Company’s People & Culture (P&C) and Corporate Safety functions. This position will manage and advise on employment-law matters, P&C policies and practices, EEOC charges, workplace investigations, employment litigation, and related matters affecting the workforce. The role will also closely partner with the Compensation & Benefits team on ERISA and other benefits-related legal issues.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- The Senior Employment Counsel (SEC) will serve as the primary legal partner supporting the Company’s People & Culture (P&C) organization – providing practical, business-focused guidance across the full range of employment law issues.
- The SEC will combine deep knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and litigation strategy with sound business judgment to deliver timely, actionable legal advice.
- Manage all aspects of EEOC charges of discrimination, including strategy development, preparation of position statements, agency engagement, mediation, and resolution.
- Oversee employment-related litigation, including wage-and-hour claims, discrimination and harassment matters, retaliation claims, and other employment disputes.
- Counsel the P&C team on employee-relations matters, including performance management, corrective action, accommodations, disability and leave issues, workplace conflict resolution, investigations, separations, reorganizations, hiring practices, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Partner with the Compensation & Benefits team on ERISA, employee benefit plans, incentive programs, fiduciary considerations, claims administration, plan governance, and compliance with related regulatory requirements.
- Provide legal oversight and advice for internal investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, workplace complaints, whistleblower reports, or potential code-of-conduct issues.
- Collaborate closely with the Compliance function to ensure alignment across ethics policies, reporting mechanisms, investigations, disciplinary processes, and training related to workplace conduct and regulatory requirements.
- Work jointly with Compliance and P&C on risk assessments, policy development, and implementation of controls designed to prevent, detect, and respond to workforce-related compliance issues.
- Review, draft, and update policies, procedures, handbooks, codes of conduct, and training materials to ensure legal compliance and consistent application across P&C and Operations functions.
- Monitor evolving legal and regulatory developments related to employment, benefits, labor, and workplace safety and advise leadership on required policy and operational adjustments.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, restrictive covenants, and employment contracts.
- Provide training to leaders and employees on employment-law topics including harassment prevention, documentation best practices, wage-and-hour compliance, safety standards, and respectful workplace requirements.
- Build strong relationships with P&C, Operations, and business leaders by offering clear, practical, and business-aligned legal guidance.
- Manage outside counsel efficiently, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality representation in litigation, investigations, and regulatory matters.

- Assist in developing and updating internal policies, procedures, and standard form agreements to reflect legal developments and business needs.

Required Education/Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor
- Admission to State Bar and in compliance with continuing education requirements
- Minimum of 5–7 years of employment-law experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or governmental agency.
- Demonstrated experience managing EEOC charges, workplace investigations, and employment litigation.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and related regulations.
- Experience advising People & Culture (or HR) teams on a wide range of employee-relations matters.
- Experience advising Compensation & Benefits teams on ERISA, plan governance, benefits compliance, and related regulatory issues.
- Experience collaborating with Compliance functions on investigations, policy development, or training initiatives (preferred).
- Experience supporting workplace safety or OSHA-related matters, including incident investigations and claims management is a plus.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with attention to clarity, precision, and practicality.
- Proven ability to work effectively with P&C, Compliance, Operations, and executive leadership.
- Experience managing outside counsel in litigation and regulatory matters.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality work.
