Job Description

Description

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of secretarial and clerical duties in order to ensure the accurate registration of legal documents within the County.  Reports to the Clerk of Court.


Examples of Duties

Performs various secretarial duties in support of the daily operations of the department which include answering phones, transferring calls, providing information, and taking messages, assisting visitors, etc.

Records, indexes, civil cases, and any other related legal documentation.

Processes mail of jury duty slips.

Performs related administrative duties to include issuing licenses and checking warrants.

Receives fine payments and accurately records information.

Processes PCR documents.

Process and answers prison mail.

Counts daily deposit.

Attends court during PCR hearing.

Processes bail bondsman license 

Retrieves monthly bondsman reports; sends update of bondsman list; reconcile bondsman reports, bonds posted in cms/bondsman reports and monthly billing for bondsman

Records notaries.

Opens and clocks daily mail.

Processes general sessions envelopes; maintains an inventory.

Issues jury work excuses.

Maintains monthly index reports.

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as daily fine payments, judgments, civil cases, general session cases, warrants, licenses, daily reports, scanned documents, etc.

Operates a variety of equipment, which may include a computer, printer, scanner, copy machine, fax machine, telephone and calculator, etc.

Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and employees, central court members, probation officers, transfer court, solicitor’s office, sheriff’s office, treasurer’s office, auditor’s office, assessor’s office, probate court, the general public, etc. 

Public Defender Applications


Transports documents to family court, main courthouse, other offices within the County, etc.

Retrieves files.

Performs related duties as required.


Typical Qualifications


Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by a minimum of one year of administrative experience in the legal field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
