- Job Summary
This attorney position represents multiple Agencies of the State of Nevada including the Board of Dispensing Opticians, the Board of Massage Therapy, Real Estate Commission, and State Environmental Commission. Primary duties include providing day-to-day advice, preparing administrative prosecutions, and some litigation in State and Federal court. The position will also be part of the Open Meeting Law Enforcement Unit.
- Essential Qualifications
Graduation from accredited law school and licensed in Nevada or eligible for limited practice certification. Must possess valid state driver’s license at time of appointment. Please include cover letter, resume, references, and a writing sample.
- Job Duties
This position involves a combination of transactional, regulatory and litigation-related tasks. Applicants with prosecution or litigation skills are preferred. This position requires an ability to interpret and analyze a variety of statutes and regulations, and apply those statutes in transactional, regulatory and litigation settings. Litigation tasks will require providing defense representation to various state agencies, departments, boards, commissions, officials, and employees in civil actions commenced in the federal and state courts of Nevada. Candidates are expected to perform with a high degree of skill, responsibility, and self-motivation; possess superior legal research, writing, and advocacy skills, and have knowledge of State and federal court procedures.
This position will be responsible for maintaining an active caseload and client assignment. Duties will include preparing administrative prosecutions and providing on the spot advice during administrative hearings and meetings for various state agencies and departments. Additional duties include drafting and reviewing opinions, regulations, policies, and procedures and providing legal advice to State clients.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Experience: Preference to those with current or recent experience in reviewing a case and drafting appellate briefs and presenting oral arguments. A working knowledge of federal and state criminal/habeas statutes, rules of evidence, local court rules and appellate procedure is a plus.
Skills Required: Must possess strong communication skills, planning, prioritizing, and executing timelines without supervision. Must exhibit professionalism, organization, self-motivation, and leadership skills.
Physical Demands: Mobility to work in typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and travel. Ability to read printed materials and computer screen; to hear and speak to communicate in person and virtually and over the telephone; to speak in clear and understandable manner.
