The successful candidate for this position will report to the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, IP and Privacy and will collaborate extensively with key leaders across the business, including the Chief Business Officer, Chief Product Officer, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Technology Officer. This is a strategic role, requiring a visionary IP leader capable of building strong partnerships with senior management to drive the organization’s intellectual property strategy.
As IP General Counsel, this individual will take the lead in shaping and executing the company’s intellectual property strategy, ensuring that IP assets are effectively managed, protected, and leveraged in a way that maximizes value and supports the company’s overall business objectives. The role demands both strong legal expertise and the ability to work collaboratively with various business units to integrate IP strategy across the company’s product, technology, and business development initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the company’s portfolio of intellectual property assets, including overseeing the prosecution of patents and trademarks, as well as securing other intellectual property rights in collaboration with the Chief Business, Product, Information, and Technology Officers.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration among legal, product, business, and technology teams to ensure intellectual property initiatives are embedded within product development, innovation, strategies, and go-to-market plans.
- Conduct and manage freedom to operate, non-infringement, validity, and other intellectual property reviews in support of our product development and business growth.
- Lead intellectual property due diligence efforts in corporate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations ensuring intellectual property is properly assessed and optimized.
- Negotiate and draft intellectual property-related contracts and agreements and other legal documents.
- Oversee the management, coordination, and representation of the company in intellectual property-related legal disputes, ensuring the company’s interests are well-represented in all litigation matters.
- Develop, implement, and review intellectual property policies and guidelines in collaboration with key business stakeholders, to ensure compliance and consistency across the organization.
- Work with outside and other in-house counsel as necessary to ensure effective representation of the company’s intellectual property interests, while respecting and integrating the responsibilities outlined above.
- Managing staff in support of the foregoing.
- Performing other intellectual property related duties as assigned.
Experience and Educational Requirements:
- Must have at least 5-10 years of experience as a practicing intellectual property attorney with a proven track record of managing large-scale intellectual property portfolios.
- Must be a registered patent attorney with significant experience in patent prosecution.
- Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- Must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Must be a member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
- Experience in negotiating complex intellectual property related agreements, particularly in the context of software and technology, is strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience in intellectual property related issues in corporate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations is preferred but not required.
- Experience in data privacy law is preferred but not required.

Location:
This role can be based out of our Boca Raton, FL headquarters or offices in Brisbane, CA and requires to be onsite three days a week. The other two days are remote, offering the flexibility you need while still engaging in meaningful collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Relocation assistance will be provided to qualified out of state candidates who are open to being based out of our corporate headquarters in Boca Raton and relocating to the South Florida area.
