The Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) Housing Stability Program assists eligible households with eviction prevention and defense to help individuals and families achieve stability in their housing. The program staff consists of Intake Specialists and Attorneys who operate, provide information and handle cases for TLSC’s statewide Eviction Helpline, table in courthouses during eviction dockets, and take referrals from other teams and partners. The team also uses information from its casework to educate and advocate where that can have a positive impact on Texas tenants.
The Housing Stability Intake Specialist is responsible for answering live calls, returning voicemails and responding to online inquiries for program services; assessing the eligibility for those program services and documenting that information in our case management system; providing information or making internal or external referrals to legal services as appropriate. The Intake Specialist also works with the team on maintaining and improving all operations, including tabling and impact work as appropriate.
The Intake Specialist in this position is also expected to:
Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards; embrace and support TLSC’s overall mission; and comply with all grant requirements, regulations, standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements.
This is a grant funded position.
Essential Functions
- Conduct pre-acceptance screening assessments and intake processes, while ensuring appropriate information is collected and entered in the case management system.
- Keep informed of community resources currently available to ensure clients are referred to the appropriate source. \
- Make appropriate internal and external referrals.
- Follow all confidentiality requirements when working with clients and employees, and/or handling correspondence, files, and documents and/or when participating in confidential discussions.
Other Functions
· Scan documents, assist with large mailouts as needed.
· Join team and staff meetings, the latter annually in person in Austin, Texas.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Preferred proficiency in the Spanish language.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Ability to establish rapport and deal tactfully and professionally with clients, visitors, and the public.
- Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and complete required assignments accurately in accordance with required deadlines.
- Ability to work with clients in a compassionate, culturally sensitive, patient, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental manner.
Competencies (Preferred)
· Proficiency with, or the ability to learn, Legal Server (TLSC’s case management system).
· Experience working with Adobe, Microsoft Planner, SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive.

Minimum Education and Education
· High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience (Required)
· Minimum two years’ experience working providing customer or client service support in a confidential setting.
Experience (Preferred)
· Experience working with non-profit grant processes.
· Experience working with state and federal grants.
