
- Job Responsibilities
The person in this position will provide legal advice and assistance to program offices across the agency. Conduct research, draft legal opinions and substantive legal documents on a variety of issues across many subject matters/disciplines. Provide services and professional advice to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE’s) Office of Transportation, draft and present related rules and policies to the State Board of Education. Represents the SCDE in driver certification matters. Provide assistance with the Agency’s compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Assist in all aspects of educator misconduct cases including presenting cases to the State Board of Education. Prepare records and arguments for appeals to the Administrative Law Court. Assist the state contact for Method of Administration & Civil Rights and participate in all activities related to review and evaluation of Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs in SC’s public school districts to ensure compliance. Provide legal review of document production as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located in the Office of General Counsel.
- Minimum and Additional Requirements
A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney. Member of the South Carolina Bar. - Preferred Qualifications
Juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school. SC Bar membership and three to five (3-5) years of experience required.
