Job Description

Job purpose

 

The Staff Counsel role will draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts with third parties for a Fortune 500, publicly traded Company.  Staff Counsel will also support Division Counsel in handling employment, labor, real estate, commercial disputes, and litigation matters.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Providing day-to-day legal support to business teams and developing strategies for handling legal issues in creative, efficient, and business-centric ways
  • Serving as counsel in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including real estate leases
  • Supporting Division Counsel to provide employment and labor counsel to North American locations
  • Resolving issues arising in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
  • Providing support for corporate governance processes and legal advice for corporate governance questions including with respect to the Board and Committees of the Board, as may be required
  • Advising clients on regulatory issues and responding to contacts from regulators as well as updating applicable corporate policies to comply with new laws and regulations 
  • Providing legal guidance directly to clients on the launch of new products and services, and the resolution of disputes and handling of employment and labor related questions

 

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in law from recognized law school and must be an active member in good standing with State Bar 
  • Minimum 4-6 years related experience
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient skill with personal computer Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working in a demanding, high performance work environment and team-oriented culture
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business a, financial concepts, and procedures with analytical skills
  • Cybersecurity, data privacy, governance, and regulatory experience a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet urgent deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
  • Desire to continually learn and grow through handling new challenges
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a large number and variety of projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines
  • Team player and consensus builder who can effectively collaborate and build relationships with attorneys and business leaders throughout the organization
  • Business acumen combined with the ability to identify optimal solutions, including novel, creative and innovative solutions to complex issues

 

Working conditions

 

  • Moderate travel requirements as needed for business purposes
  • Work assignments may be completed remotely and/or available company offices

 

 

Physical requirements

 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and/or keyboard
  • Heavy methods of verbal and auditory communication via phone, virtual calls, and/or email
