The Senior Communications Manager plays an integral role in content generation for Troutman Pepper Locke’s marketing and business development efforts as a writer, editor, researcher, and advisor. This position works closely with firm leadership, lawyers, the business development team, and other internal constituents on internal communications materials, supports all aspects of the firm’s rankings and recognitions in key legal directories and award programs, and leads other strategic communications initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and evaluate internal communications needs and develop and execute plans in support of the firm’s business objectives.
Collaborate with the Senior Communications Coordinator to conceptualize, write, and edit emails, announcements, informational materials, newsletters, and other collateral for internal audiences.
Establish a cadence and procedure around internal communications to ensure firmwide activities and programs are effectively communicated to all levels of the firm.
Drive, develop, and manage the Troutman Pepper Locke brand internally and work collaboratively with the marketing team to communicate the brand externally as part of an integrated communications program.
Lead and manage the firm’s comprehensive submission strategy for business rankings, surveys, and awards.
Provide strategic recommendations for existing or new business rankings, surveys, and awards the firm should pursue in line with its strategy.
Improve and communicate legal directory best practices, including conducting annual training and workshops. Serve as a main point of contact providing strategic advice to lawyers and marketing professionals to improve submissions.
Ensure the quality of final submissions before uploading to Chambers and Legal 500.
Assist the Awards & Rankings Manager in the creation and management of a legal directory and awards calendar that sets timelines and deadlines.
Manage analytics, including reporting and program evaluation.
Maintain confidential information.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral, writing, editing, and project management skills with a strong understanding of AP style.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to distill complex concepts into compelling and persuasive content.
Ability to take initiative and independently manage and prioritize a heavy workload, and to perform in a fast-paced environment, meeting frequent deadlines.
Strong Microsoft skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Client-service oriented. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the firm.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Flexibility to adapt to quickly changing priorities.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a specialization in communications, English, or equivalent field; or any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Minimum six (6) years of experience in leadership positions overseeing writing, editing, and proofreading in communications, journalism, publishing, public relations, marketing, or related field in an agency, law firm, or professional services firm.
Experience managing and developing a team.
Experience working with LexTrack is a plus.
