Job Description

The Supervising Attorney will work together with the YJEC Clinic Director to supervise clinic students’ work representing clients and to build and foster relationships with the community. The Law School’s Center for Juvenile Law and Policy (CJLP) houses four live-client in-house clinics providing direct representation. As part of the CJLP, YJEC provides holistic education advocacy to young people who have been criminalized and pushed out of school due to their vulnerable identities, including race, disability, gender identity, and/or immigration status, and engages in systemic advocacy to dismantle the school-prison nexus.  Core to YJEC’s mission is building power in our communities by ensuring that law students, clients, and community members are equipped with tools to advance education justice. YJEC works collaboratively with all system stakeholders, including social workers, defense attorneys (such as the Juvenile Justice Clinic), minor’s counsel, and immigration attorneys to holistically represent youth and ensure that every client has the opportunity to succeed in life.

  • Represent young people in education and regional center proceedings, which may include advocating at court appearances (in juvenile, adult, immigration courts, etc).
  • Lead or co-lead with the Clinic Director systemic advocacy projects that advance YJEC’s mission and values.
  • Co-teach the course(s) required for students who are enrolled in the YJEC clinic, and continue developing curriculum responsive to law students’ needs and emerging trends and needs in education law.
  • Partner with the Clinic Director to build and foster relationships with the community, including attending community events and hosting know-your-rights workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
  • This position is a full-time, year-round position with an office at the Loyola Law School campus. This position requires driving to court, client homes, schools, etc. Some evening and occasional weekend hours will be required.
