The Position:
We are currently seeking General Counsel with extensive experience practicing law, preferably in an in-house capacity. The general counsel will serve as our primary advisor on all legal matters, guiding company policy to reflect legislative changes and statutory compliance. As a key member of the senior leadership team, this individual will provide guidance and input on legal matters of the highest profile, impact, complexity, and/or sensitivity. The General Counsel will engage and partner with a variety of business leaders to shape and execute on FanDuel Sports Network’s legal, business, and operational strategies and protect the interests of our customers, stakeholders, and employees and further the company’s revenue and growth goals.

This position is based in New York metropolitan area (offices in NYC and Southport, CT).

Role Objectives:

  • Lead overall strategy to provide expert services and counsel on all legal matters, including but not limited to team and league rights management, distribution, privacy, intellectual property, labor and employment and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Deliver on general contract matters, including but not limited to services agreements, production related agreements, talent agreements, software and other technology related agreements, licensing, and programming agreements, third party rights clearances, distribution agreements, contract summaries, confidentiality, and general contract matters.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure FanDuel Sports Network's compliance and mitigate potential risks.
  • Lead team strategy to handle general litigation, pre-litigation claims, and all related matters.
  • Select, manage, and oversee external counsel to provide legal advice and services when necessary. Manage relationships and budget to ensure effective use of external resources.
  • Provide legal oversight and counsel on all partnership deals and potential M&A activity.
  • Lead geographically distributed team of attorneys and paralegals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership
  • Minimum of 15 years of legal experience in a media or sports company or related law practice including at least 10 years of experience leading a functional area.
  • Proven skill negotiating and drafting complex, sports and entertainment related agreements.
  • Demonstrated commercial and business acumen, preferably in environment of operating and scaling a business.
  • Solutions oriented, creative problem solver with exceptional risk assessment and analysis skills.
  • Prior experience managing, mentoring, coaching, developing, and motivating successful teams.
  • Strong collaboration and team skills, bringing an overall business mindset and approach to getting effective results.
  • Superior interpersonal skills - ability to effectively communicate with and influence across all levels of management and staff, as well as external business contacts and lawyers.
  • Ability to quickly shift from strategic to tactical.

The base salary compensation range for this role is $500K - $600K.  Final compensation for this role includes an annual discretionary bonus.
