Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:

  • Small Business Self Employed Collection Non-Campus Collection Operations
  • Specialty area of Civil Enforcement Advice & Support Operations (CEASO)

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Receives and analyzes taxpayer inquiries, requests for adjustment action, and other input documents to determine nature of problem.
  • Determines what information or documents are needed to resolve cases.
  • Researches IRS, microfilm records, encoder books, and other sources for pertinent data. Contacts taxpayers and/or their representatives to obtain necessary information.
  • Performs the full range of corrections to taxpayer accounts, that is, adjusts accounts, inputs credit transfers, re-computes penalty and interest (including restricted interest), and initiates manual refunds.
  • Responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding the preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules and other documentation; advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special handling.

  • Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues. Experience must have included analyzing and resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issues.


GS-6 TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Under merit promotion procedures, Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Time is credited based on calendar time served in a grade, regardless of the number of days or hours worked. If you currently hold or have previously held a position at the same (or equivalent) or higher grade/level in the Federal government as of this announcement, you will meet the TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience may have been gained in positions in a bookkeeping or accounting position, or interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting problems and resolving high-conflict differences through use of established guidelines, or in an interaction with customers in person, in writing or by telephone in a variety of situations that require solicitation of information to identify concerns and offer solutions. Your position may have included interpreting account information to address a variety of issues, guidelines, and past transactions.

GS-7 TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Under merit promotion procedures, Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Time is credited based on calendar time served in a grade, regardless of the number of days or hours worked.
