Are you a communications professional with a passion for creative storytelling for important issues? The Harris County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) is hiring a Communications Coordinator to support the work of the Communications and Outreach Division. The Harris County Attorney is the chief civil legal officer for Harris County. The office represents Harris County, its officials, and employees in legal matters and serves the public through impactful litigation and enforcement actions.
The Communications Coordinator will assist in creating and maintaining a wide range of communications materials to support internal and external engagement. This position is ideal for someone with strong writing and organizational skills who is looking to grow their experience in public service communications. The Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Manager and the broader team to ensure consistent messaging, up-to-date content, and seamless execution of communications initiatives. This position reports to the Communications Manager and plays a key role in advancing the mission and initiatives of HCAO through strategic communications support. This position may also oversee interns.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Draft and edit communications materials including brochures, talking points, and other outreach materials.
- Support internal communications, including maintaining the HCAO intranet site and drafting internal emails.
- Regularly update website content in coordination with subject matter experts. (no web development experience required)
- Assist with the creation of content for the office’s monthly newsletter and social media platforms.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries submitted to the office’s Communications Inbox.
- Coordinate promotional needs for office events, including ensuring materials are produced, approved, and available.
- Support logistics for press conferences and other events.
- Provide support for earned and paid media initiatives as directed by the Communications Manager.
- Maintain editorial calendars and help track deliverables, deadlines, and creative assets for ongoing campaigns.
- Assist with light project management duties, ensuring timely completion of content and collateral with proper branding.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience with communications strategy, writing, public relations, or similar experience. (Experience may include job experience, internships, fellowships, and other related experience.)
- An Associate Degree may be substituted for additional experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a communications, public affairs, marketing, or similar role.
- Ability to attend events that occur outside of typical working hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences.
- Basic knowledge of communications strategy and messaging principles.
- Familiarity with email and social media platforms. (e.g., Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X)
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Comfortable collaborating in a team environment and working independently when necessary.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

- General Information
Located in downtown Houston, the Harris County Attorney’s Office represents Harris County government, the Harris County Flood Control District, the Harris County Toll Road Authority, and the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network in all civil matters, including lawsuits. The office also provides legal advice to county officials and employees.
Position Type and Typical Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, however work hours may vary depending on departmental needs.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
This job typically operates in a professional office environment, and the attorney in this role uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners/copiers, and phones.
This is largely a sedentary role, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.

- $49,670.40 - $82,638.40/year
