Responsibilities:

  • Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching courses in litigation and other specific practice areas, as needed.

  • Revision and development of instructional materials as well as assessment of program and student outcomes with particular focus on HLC criteria and American Bar Association requirements.

  • Participation in discipline, division, and college matters through service on committees and attendance at regular meetings as well as continued professional development.

  • Flexible to teach day, evening or weekend sections.

  • Dedication to excellence in teaching and have the desire to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community.

  • Will practice contemporary teaching strategies, including learner outcome assessments and synchronous online instruction.

  • Availability to teach classes on campus and meet during daytime hours, in the evenings, on weekends, and online.

  • Continue the professionalism of an active scholar, participate in departmental and campus-wide matters to enhance their disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in paralegal or legal studies or a bachelor’s degree and 30 semester credits in paralegal or legal studies, or a graduate law degree.

Occupational Experience Requirement

Three full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience in the legal field.

Recency Requirement

One year of this work experience shall be within five years immediately preceding the date of application for this credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual as two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in an American Bar Association–approved paralegal program.

  • Experience teaching at a community college.

  • Experience teaching legal research and writing and electronic legal research platforms.

  • Demonstrated use of interactive, inquiry-based pedagogies in the classroom and via remote synchronous instruction (Zoom).

  • Demonstrated innovative use of assessment techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive working with diverse communities.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build partnerships within the college and in the community.
