The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO) is seeking motivated students for its Student Internship Program. Duties The AO is seeking applicants for its Student Internship Program. The opportunity is intended to provide valuable work experience and prepare students interested in a public service career. The AO is looking for student interns with backgrounds and/or demonstrated interest in the following areas: human resources, public affairs, law, business administration (marketing, budget, accounting, etc.), and information technology. Student interns will have an opportunity to improve their writing, research, analytical, logical, multi-tasking, and customer service skills. Additionally, student interns are provided with several networking opportunities with fellow interns, agency employees, and other government employers.
All internship opportunities are onsite at the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building. Telework is not permitted.
This specific internship is in Human Resources Office (HRO).
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Corresponding via email and by phone with customers to address human resources questions and inquiries.
- Conducting data entry to support the personnel and/or payroll action processing.
- Assisting with database management related to personnel, payroll, and/or benefits processing.
- Collaborating with team members and other stakeholders on human resources initiatives.
- Researching human resources policies and procedures to provide accurate advice and guidance.
- Assisting with managing and organizing data from different sources.
- Conducting analysis and assisting with human resources projects and daily operations.
- Shadowing HRO staff and attending meetings to learn about how the Judiciary works and HRO's role in fulfilling the Judiciary's mission.
- Providing HRO leadership with ideas and opinions on processes and procedures based on experience or from what has been learned through academic studies.
- Sharing perspectives on the internship experience with HRO staff in the form of a written report or oral presentation.
- Attending educational and training sessions to aid with professional development, networking, and learning new skills.
- Performing general office tasks, as assigned

All students in the Student Internship Program must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student, taking at least a half-time academic or technical course load in an accredited two-year, four-year, graduate, or post-graduate program. Students must also be in good academic standing, maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to meeting the BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS, applicants must also:
- Work well in a team environment.
- Have very strong organization and communication skills and be detailed oriented.
- Have a working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft 365.
- Have excellent writing, reading, and interpersonal skills, and be able to organize a variety of assignments simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- The ideal candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate level student working towards Human Resources Management degree.
