- Summary
Blake Rule 9 Interns Needed for Summer 2025
The Washington Supreme Court’s recent opinion in State v. Blake, 197 Wn. 2d 170, 174, 481 P.3d 521, 524 (2021), held that RCW 69.50.4013 and its predecessor statutes (collectively “RCW 69.50.4013” or “simple drug possession”) are unconstitutional. This has resulted in an unprecedented number of post-conviction motions for relief.
While this is not a trial position and not part of the PAO’s regular Rule 9 intern program, the Rule 9 in this position will gain exposure to some of the issues involved in a high-volume practice, become familiar with the components of criminal court records and will be able to report having worked on a historic, measurable, and significant project for people who have been impacted by drug convictions. The work is partially hybrid after a training period and as a result there is some flexibility with hours.
The Mainstream Criminal Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is diligently working to remove these convictions from the records of those impacted and we are looking for a highly motivated law student to help attorneys review these cases for vacation and dismissal.
The mission of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is to do Justice. The hallmarks of service in the office are Integrity, Compassion, Professionalism, and Leadership. We value diversity and strive to hire a workforce that reflects the community that we serve. It is essential to our mission that we create and maintain an office that is diverse and inclusive.

Applications will be reviewed as they come in, and candidates will be notified if they are selected for an interview. It is likely that interviews for all applicants will be held via Teams or Zoom. This position will remain open until filled.
