
Position Summary:
The Appellate Paralegal works under the supervision of multiple attorneys to provide comprehensive
support during all phases of the litigation process. This role will be designed to support appellate paralegal tasks and strategic project initiatives for designated clients.
Representative Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, cite-check, and finalize appellate briefs, petitions, and motions in compliance with jurisdiction-specific rules.
Assemble and paginate appendices, excerpts of record, and other appellate filings.
Conducts in-depth review of trial court records, transcripts, and exhibits for inclusion in appeals.
Act as the point of contact and coordinator for multiple cross-functional workstreams for designated clients.
Track deliverables, deadlines, and dependencies across litigation, compliance, privacy, and other workstreams.
Organize and proactively manage team communications and priorities as they pertain to initiatives for designated clients.
Maintains a thorough understanding of all aspects of the department’s work and its context in
the organization as a whole, and maintains an awareness of, and stays up to date with changes in laws and procedures, specifically relating to the litigation practice area.
Maintain and collect data on firm appellate experience, outcomes, and benchmarks.
Required Education, Knowledge and Experience:
A minimum of 3+ years’ experience as a litigation or appellate paralegal required, demonstrated expertise in appellate procedure preferred.
College degree or comparable paralegal experience is required; paralegal certificate preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to meet the Firm’s billable hours requirement while maintaining excellent service and
producing consistently high-quality work product that meets or exceeds the Firm’s quality
standards.
Excellent data entry and organizational skills.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite is a must.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate
projects.
Ability to use good judgment, initiative, and command of resources to accomplish results.
Ability to work well as a team member.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse
group of clients, attorneys, and staff and to provide information with courtesy and tact.
Ability to multitask and work independently.
Flexibility and ability to prioritize a continually changing workload.
Ability to work well under pressure and be self-motivated.
Physical Requirements of the Position:
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
