Hall & Evans, LLC, one of Denver’s most established defense law firms has a full-time opening for a Lead Paralegal in our Downtown Denver office. The Lead Paralegal position will partner with the Litigation Manager to oversee the Paralegal team’s work, monitor productivity, provide support and guidance with day-to-day work questions & processes & procedures, and job training & development. The Lead Paralegal ensures Paralegal teams run smoothly, meets all requirements and deadlines as assigned, and supports all practice areas as needed. The Lead Paralegal will have an annual billable hours requirement of 810 hours.
This position can offer a hybrid working schedule (3 days in-office and 2 days remote) after successfully completing the training period.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists Litigation Manager in overseeing the paralegal team’s productivity, providing on-going training and assisting new paralegals with on boarding and position ramp up.
- Acts as a role model and leads by example to foster a productive work environment.
- Monitors work productivity and coaches Paralegals as needed to ensure work requirements are met timely and accurately.
- Meets with Litigation Manager on a regular basis for updates on current events, issues, coverages, etc.
- Helps to coordinate assistance for Paralegals when needed and pre-determined coverage is not available.
- Available to assist with urgent requests as needed during and outside normal business hours.
- Train and mentors new Paralegals; check in with new hires on a regular basis to ensure training and processes and procedures are understood.
- Monitors training needs and provides job specific training and is available to answer Paralegal questions.
- Assumes Paralegal responsibilities and supports attorneys and practice areas as assigned. Responsibilities include:
- Meeting with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
- Drafting legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories, files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Researching and analyzing statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
- Interviewing clients and witnesses and preparing summaries of their statements.
- Preparing, organizing, storing, and retrieving case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
- Assisting attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.
- Developing and maintaining records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
- Anticipating attorney’s needs, identifying problems, and finding innovative solutions.
- 5+ years of relevant general litigation experience in multiple jurisdictions, required.
- Experience with billing time and able to meet minimum annual billing requirements.
- Well-developed writing and research skills.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and legal practice management, document management, and e-discovery systems.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of clients, attorneys, co-workers, and administrative staff.
- Exercise a high degree of tact, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize a high-volume workload to meet time-critical deadlines.
- High level of integrity and personal accountability.
- Flexibility to work overtime as necessary to meet deadlines.
Education
- ABA Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent experience required.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field, required.
The hiring range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 annually.
