This includes assisting vulnerable community members impacted by the January 2025 wildfires. Bet Tzedek’s is looking for an exceedingly organized candidate who is professional, driven, a strong and courteous communicator, a strong networker, and passionate about social justice issues to coordinate Southern California Legal Aid wildfire response efforts among various legal aid agencies on a time-limited bases. Reporting to the Directing Attorney of Pro Bono, this individual will work with Southern California legal aid organizations involved in wildfire response to help organize and disseminate information related to wildfire relief efforts, such as clinics, resource fairs, Know Your Rights presentations, and the availability of direct legal representation services, and develop and manage mechanisms by which to ensure information regarding these efforts are accessible to all legal aid organizations, community members, and government agencies in Southern California.
This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation. While the primary workplace is Bet Tzedek’s offices, at the discretion of the immediate supervisor, the employee may be permitted to work remotely or may be required to work in other locations depending on workload/business obligations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Gather information for, organize, and maintain a database of all Southern California legal aid wildfire relief efforts, such as Resource Centers, Intake Clinics, Housing Clinics, FEMA Appeals Clinics, Insurance Clinics, Document Replacement, and Landlord-Tenant clinics, and ensure information contained in the database is accessible to legal aid staff, community members, and government partners.
- Gather, organize, and maintain a database of all Southern California legal aid wildfire relief resources, such as flyers, FAQs, and ensure information contained in the database is accessible to legal aid staff, community members, and government partners.
- Develop and maintain mechanisms by which to send updates and information to Southern California legal aid organizations to help ensure all interested agencies are aware of trainings, opportunities, and resources.
- Assist in the coordination and record keeping of Southern California wildfire relief meetings.
- Participate in meetings with Bet Tzedek's community partners related to wildfire disaster relief efforts. Stay updated on key community initiatives and regularly brief the Pro Bono Team and agency staff.
- Work with staff from other legal aid agencies as well as the Legal Aid Association of California to ensure all efforts integrate with and support the ongoing development of the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative (DLAC) with an eye towards strengthening the disaster assistance infrastructure for the State of California.
- Familiarity with the areas of law noted above preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with MS Office (including Word; Power Point; Excel) and Adobe PDF (or equivalent software) (required);
- Proficiency with NetDocuments or other web-based document management system (preferred).
- Proficiency with case management systems (Kemp’s PRIME, JusticeServer, LegalServer) (preferred);
- Spanish proficiency and ability to provide written and oral Spanish and English translation (preferred);
- At least three years in professional office work environment (strongly preferred);
