MSU Internal Job Postings Details See More Job Openings by This EmployerThe University seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Assistant General Counsel and Health Information Privacy Officer who will provide legal advice related to medical colleges, student clinic, and clinical center, including supervision of outside counsel. The successful candidate will be responsible for the University's health care portfolio. The person will also function as a generalist, providing advice and services in a variety of subject areas handled by OGC. Substantial knowledge and experience in a minimum of three practice areas relevant to higher education is preferred, such as labor and employment, civil rights, Title IX, FERPA, student life, state and federal constitutional law, contracts and procurement, business transactions, risk management and insurance, subpoena and discovery practice, policy development, and public records.

Required DegreeDoctorate -Law
Minimum Requirements- The required qualifications include a Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school.
- Admission to or eligibility for admission to the State Bar of Michigan within 6 months of the position start date;
- at least 6 years of relevant work experience practicing health law.
- Proactive and collaborative;
- Strong academic background;
- Excellent writing ability and advocacy skills;
- Expertise/experience with contracting, physician practice operations, health care regulations, third-party payors;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, work on, and advance multiple concurrent projects and issues;
- Ability to address and advise diverse groups of University constituents;
- Familiarity with college/university operations is a plus;
- Progressively more responsible work experience.
