This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development AIG, Office of Special Inquiry. As an Attorney-Adviser (General), you will be responsible for conducting and supervising audits, evaluations and investigations related to the programs and operations of the Department; providing leadership and coordination and recommending policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in their administration.
Duties
As the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we remain an independent and objective organization, conducting and supervising audits, evaluations, and investigations relating to the Department's programs and operations. The following are the duties of this position at the GS-15 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Provide legal advice and guidance on issues related to the conduct of OSI investigations and inquiries, and other initiatives to prevent or detect fraud and mismanagement in agency programs and operations requiring consideration of complex issues of civil and administrative law, practice and procedure, remedies and enforcement mechanisms.
- Conduct investigations and inquiries. Analyze allegations for potential violations of law; create investigative plans; conduct investigative interviews; obtain electronic and documentary evidence; review and organize evidence; present matters to the Department of Justice and U.S. Attorneys; and draft investigative reports.
- Represent the Inspector General as necessary, providing advice and support in connection with the Inspector General's participation in interdepartmental committees and projects of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) and other interagency bodies.
- Serve as the resource point in the OIG for resolution of difficult legal strategies and issues concerning effective implementation of investigations related to the operations of HUD program areas nationwide.
- $136,414 - $191,900/year

Basic Requirements: Applicants MUST:(1) be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B. or J.D.; from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) ABA Approved Law Schools; (2) be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and(3) meet all specialized experience requirements as described in the vacancy announcement.

- Experience conducting witness and subject interviews; OR
- Experience conducting complex investigations OR responding to government investigations; OR
- Experience writing investigative reports.
Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have at least 24 months of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized Experience includes:
- Experience conducting legal research; AND
- Experience providing recommendations; AND

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
