Job Description

Duties Serves as the department head in the Correctional Services department at one of the Bureau of Prisons most complex correctional facilities. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control. Also inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee-inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Must integrate these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department, and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Salary

Qualifications To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience advising executive staff on all matters concerning institution custodial and security. Experience formulating and implementing correctional policy. Experience coordinating requirements with other departments, ensuring institutional security controls, and emergency response. Experience developing the departmental budget, giving consideration to custodial requirements, inmate care, and administrative needs. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
