Salary
- POSITION SUMMARY
This position is part of a job classification in a two-level Municipal Court progression series. Performs a broad range of clerical and administrative duties in support of the Municipal Court.

- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews documents presented to the court for authenticity, accuracy and appropriate judicial action
- Assists in administering case management of criminal proceedings and court dockets
- Processes citations from ticket writers and manual citations
- Sets court cases for arraignments, pre-trial hearings, trials and other court proceedings
- Assists in bond procedures including bonding paperwork, collection of cash bonds, appeals bonds, and bond forfeitures
- Prepares and processes complaints, warrants, capias pro fines, summonses and subpoenas
- Produces standardized correspondence such as failure to appear letters, trial letters, jury notices, and show cause orders
- Assists judge in courtroom, monitors and attends to juror needs, and coordinates courtroom activity
- Coordinates matters with Municipal Court Judges, defendants, defense council, police and other levels of the criminal justice system
- Calculates, collects and processes fines, fees and court costs, based on judicial orders for misdemeanor violations related to state laws and city ordinances
- Accounts for all funds received in an accurate manner in compliance with prescribed procedures
- Maintains court records prescribed by law and consistent with effective management of the court
- Monitors cases for compliance, processes cases in accordance with legal requirements, and prepares documentation for judges and prosecutors, including warrant of arrest
- Researches, prepares, corrects and transmits records and reports to state and outside agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Office of Court Administration and OmniBase of Texas and the City’s collection agency
- Updates case files in the Court's case management system as contact is made with customers, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses and others
- Assists in preparing reports related to the Municipal Court operations
- Compiles data and information, and tracks and monitors for performance measures and reports
- Assist with research and interpretation of judicial orders
- Provides general information to the public regarding court matters to the general public attorneys, police and other agencies
- Performs other duties as assigned
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
This position is included in the Municipal Court Series based upon the following criteria:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test (GED)
- Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office
Grade 4/B21
Court Clerk I: First level in series. Performs entry-level semi-skilled court support activities under direct supervision- Two (2) years of full-time paid experience in an administrative or clerical role
- Must obtain Level I Court Certification within two (2) years of employment
Grade 5/B22
Court Clerk II: Second level in series. Performs court support activities under minimum supervision- Four (4) years of full-time paid experience in an administrative or clerical role in a court setting
- Level II Court Certification
- LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
- Reliable transportation and liability insurance
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:

- Controlled substance screening
