Job Description

This position is located in the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), which serves as the chief administrative and executive office for the Board incident to its statutory functions. The OES is responsible for case-processing activities for cases pending before the Board in unfair labor practice and representation proceedings, including planning and directing judicial management of cases and administration of delegated decision-making authority.

Duties As a Paralegal Specialist (Paralegal & Document Formatting Expert), GS-0950-11, your typical work assignments may include: Drafting, editing, proofreading, and formatting Board Decisions, Administrative Law Judge Decisions, Orders, and legal correspondence to ensure accuracy, clarity, proper legal citation, grammatical correctness, and compliance with applicable style and formatting requirements. Reviewing incoming legal filings for compliance with Board Rules and Regulations, including timeliness, formatting, service requirements, and procedural sufficiency, while determining appropriate routing and priority handling. Performing legal research using legal databases, case management systems, and legal reference materials to identify, analyze, and summarize procedural and substantive legal information relevant to Board cases and operations. Coordinating and communicating with Board Members, attorneys, judges, Agency officials, technical staff, and external parties to resolve case processing, publication, filing, and service issues. Utilizing the NxGen electronic case management system and related systems to track filings, manage case information, ensure proper issuance and service of decisions, maintain accurate records, and support reporting and case management functions. Ideal Candidate Statement The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented legal professional with strong writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading skills who can produce accurate, legally sound, and publication-ready documents in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. They possess strong analytical abilities and sound judgment in reviewing legal filings, interpreting procedural requirements, conducting legal research, and ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations. The ideal candidate communicates effectively with attorneys, leadership, court personnel, and external stakeholders and demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and the ability to manage sensitive legal and case processing matters with accuracy and efficiency. Experience working with legal case management systems and legal research platforms is highly desirable. Knowledge of the National Labor Relations Board and its processes is preferred. Minimum Qualifications Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Paralegal Specialist at the GS-11 grade level. Specialized experience includes: Experience drafting, editing, proofreading, or formatting legal decisions, legal correspondence, pleadings, orders, or similar legal documents; and Experience reviewing legal filings or case documents for compliance with procedural requirements, timeliness, formatting standards, or service requirements; and Experience conducting legal research using legal research databases, case management systems, or legal reference materials to analyze and summarize legal information; and Experience utilizing electronic case management systems, legal databases, spreadsheets, or other software applications to track case activity, maintain records, generate reports, or manage legal documentation.
