This is a paid summer internship anticipated to run from mid-May through mid-August 2025, depending on academic semester dates.A successful internship may lead to additional paid project-based assignments during the following academic year.
About the RoleThe Legal Intern will support the Town’s Legal Department by performing legal research, drafting and reviewing documents, and assisting with a variety of municipal legal matters. This position is ideal for law students seeking to develop a strong foundation in local government law and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of municipal attorneys.
Interns will learn about municipal operations, the role of the Town Attorney, and legal processes related to ordinances, public records, board governance, and litigation support.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and assist with legal writing on a variety of local government issues
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and editing Town ordinances, resolutions, policies, and related legal documents
- Review emails and documents in support of responses to public records requests and discovery
- Assist attorneys with contract review and interpretation under supervision
- Organize and maintain legal files, research materials, and reference documents
- Observe Town Board, advisory board, and committee meetings and related procedures
- Assist with special legal projects and administrative tasks as assigned
- Collaborate with Legal Department staff and other Town departments as appropriate
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Minimum Education and Experience
- Current enrollment as a law student in an ABA-accredited law school
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of Adobe and legal research platforms such as LexisNexis
- $18 - $20/hour
